SELAH SUE (BELGIUM)

Sanne Putseys, known professionally as Selah Sue, was born on 3 May 1989 in Leuven, Belgium. At the age of 15, she learned to play the guitar and began writing her own songs. Influenced by artists such as Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu, she adopted the stage name Selah Sue. Initially, Sanne Putseys combined her musical career with her psychology studies at the Catholic University of Leuven. According to her, studying psychology helped her to better understand human emotions, which also influenced her music. Eventually, she decided to devote herself fully to music and began performing as a support act for artists such as Jamie Lidell in London and Paris. In addition, she played with the Belgian group Novastar at the Paradiso in Amsterdam. In 2008, she released her EP "Black Part Love", which contains five songs. In 2009, Selah Sue performed at festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival and the Lowlands Festival. Additionally, she was a regular presence on Dutch television shows such as 'De Wereld Draait Door'." Her first album, also called 'Selah Sue', came out in 2011 and sold over 300,000 copies, going double platinum in France and platinum in Poland. This album included hits such as 'Raggamuffin', 'Crazy Vibes' and 'This World'. Her second album, 'Reason', was released in 2015 and received a gold record from the Independent Music Companies Association, indicating sales of at least 75,000 copies across Europe. Her career quickly took off, participating in major festivals and collaborating with well-known artists. Despite her success, Selah Sue has spoken openly about her struggles with depression. This Belgian singer-songwriter has won the Best Solo Female Artist award at the Music Industry Awards five times.
