José Luis Ruiz del Puerto: Cultural Ambassador of Contemporary Guitar and the Alhambra José Miguel Moreno Serie C

"He is a true Spanish cultural ambassador". With these words, the prestigious specialized magazine Classical Guitar described the artistic career of José Luis Ruiz del Puerto, widely recognized as one of the most solid and influential figures in contemporary Spanish classical guitar.

His extensive dedication to championing contemporary Spanish music has earned him international acclaim. Studying musical analysis and composition techniques under renowned composer Francisco Llácer Pla decisively shaped his aesthetic direction, fostering his deep commitment to 20th and 21st-century repertoire.

Commissions, Premieres, and Educational Impact

Ruiz del Puerto has spearheaded the creation of nearly 50 new works for classical guitar. Notable commissions include pieces commemorating historic anniversaries such as the Centenaries of Federico García Lorca and Joaquín Rodrigo, the 150th Anniversary of Francisco Tárrega's birth, and the 20th Anniversary of Andrés Segovia's passing. Numerous composers have dedicated scores to him, leading to frequent world premieres and first recordings.

Alongside his performing career, he is active in research and guitar pedagogy. He has delivered lectures and masterclasses on contemporary guitar repertoire, authored articles for Acordes magazine, and published several educational books for classical guitar instruction. He is a founding member of the Valencia International Guitar Conference, Artistic Director of the prestigious Alhambra International Guitar Competition (CIGA), and Professor of Guitar at the "José Iturbi" Conservatory in Valencia.

José Luis Ruiz del Puerto's Choice: Alhambra José Miguel Moreno Serie C

To interpret the intricate tonal layers and dynamic nuance of contemporary compositions, José Luis Ruiz del Puerto performs on a master luthier instrument: the Alhambra José Miguel Moreno Serie C.

Designed in collaboration with master concertist and musicologist José Miguel Moreno, the Serie C represents the pinnacle of artisan guitar making. It delivers exceptional acoustic resonance, rich complex harmonics, extended sustain, and a balanced response across all registers—indispensable features for concert halls worldwide.
