Playing guitar while traveling? How to transport it

For many, the guitar is the perfect travel companion. Those who are passionate about playing the guitar need to take their classical guitar or any other variation with them on every trip so they can enjoy its company wherever they go.

On many occasions, this instrument can turn into a real headache depending on the mode of transportation used. In the case of the Spanish guitar, just like with any other, it requires specific care and precautions during travel to avoid any kind of damage.

Essential Care for Overland Travel: Car, Train, and Bus

Whether traveling by car, train, or bus, it is essential to store it inside its gig bag or case, perfectly protected to absorb shocks during the journey. Additionally, it is important not to expose the instrument to high temperatures. Likewise, special care should be taken to place it properly in the luggage rack of the train or bus.

Air Travel Protocol: Cabin and Checked Luggage

When traveling by plane, even greater care must be taken. Many airlines allow musicians to carry their instruments in the cabin as hand luggage. Whenever possible, try to keep the guitar close to you in order to keep it under control at all times. In the event that the airline does not allow it in the cabin, you should loosen or untune the strings to prevent the guitar from having too much tension and cracking due to pressure changes or breaking from an accidental bump.

Conclusion: The Importance of Proper Protection

Whichever mode of transport you choose, the guitar must be well protected with a good case or gig bag that provides complete insulation and protection. Only then can you enjoy the best guitar music once the journey is complete.
