Ekannt Singh: A Journey to Musical Excellence and Brand Ambassador for Alhambra Guitarras in India
Ekannt Singh, a name synonymous with classical guitar excellence in India, has made significant waves on the global music scene. From his early achievement as runner-up at the prestigious Goa International Guitar Festival (hosted by the Guitar Guild Goa in 2006), Singh's career has been marked by artistic distinction, culminating in his appointment as the official Indian Brand Ambassador for Alhambra Guitarras.
Accolades, Global Performances, and Educational Leadership
In 2009, Singh won first prize at the National Classical Guitar Competition in Bangalore, organized by the Embassy of Spain in India. This victory paved the way for his performance at the world-renowned Festival de la Guitarra de Córdoba in Spain (2010), launching his international concert career.
Singh has performed and served as a jury member at major international events, including the Thailand International Guitar Festival (2015), as well as numerous concert series across Europe, India, and Southeast Asia. Beyond performance, he has been instrumental in music education: serving as Deputy Head of the Western Music Department at the Calcutta School of Music, Director of the Calcutta International Classical Guitar Festival (2010), and Co-founder and former President of the Calcutta Classical Guitar Society.
Film Scoring, Solo Releases, and Cultural Impact
Singh's artistic versatility is evident in his contributions to feature films, advertisements, and documentaries. Notable highlights include his work on the internationally acclaimed film Phoring (winner of the Vivel Filmfare Award for Best Background Score), as well as acclaimed scores for Nirbashito, Jyesthoputro, and Kanttho.
His debut solo classical guitar album, Memoirs (released by Girona Entertainment), introduced a refined classical acoustic sound to Indian music lovers. Furthermore, his complex solo guitar transcriptions of iconic Indian popular songs by Kishore Kumar (such as "Rimjhim Gire Sawan") and Bengali classics (including Rabindranath Tagore's "Labonye Purno Prano") have earned widespread critical acclaim.
His recent production features a performance video of Agustín Barrios Mangoré's masterpiece "Sueño en la Floresta", filmed in the Darjeeling rainforest, showcasing supreme technique, tremolo control, and expressive musicality.
